How Many Calories in Teaspoon of Sugar

Ever wanted to know how many calories are in a teaspoon of sugar. Here is your anwser...

In one level teaspoon of sugar there are 16 calories and 4 grams of carbohydrate. One rounded teaspoon is 1 1/2 tsp and 24 calories with 6 grams of carbohydrate.

From this you can get a good idea how much sugar goes into many of the things you eat and drink...would you put that much sugar in a cup or tea? Probably not.

The Taco Bell Diet

Earlier I mentioned the Big Mac diet, which would work too, but today we are going to look at the Taco Bell Diet. On an average day I burn about 1900 calories, yes I'm lazy and I sit in a chair all day. Let take a look at the Taco Bell nutritional menu and see what I can eat on the Taco Bell Diet...and still lose weight! I did all the work for you but if you're board you can check it out here. Strangely it is a lot of fun to mess around with.

So I like the regular plain old crunchy taco. Each Taco has 170 calories, only 140 without cheese but what fun is a meal without cheese! So doing some very simple math...1900/170, you will find that you can eat 11.18 tacos a day on the Taco Bell Diet. Without cheese you can eat 13 and 1/2. 2 bonus Tacos if 11 just isn't enough for you.

So for you 3 square meal a day types I suggest 3 Tacos for breakfast, 4 tacos for lunch and 4 more for dinner. The key to the diet is no liquid calories, so you need to drink water or a Diet Beverage. Only 11 sugar grams too, half of what is in 1 20oz coke.

So, if you work for Taco Bell and you are looking for a Jared type story give me a call. Subway is overrated anyways.

Sugar Does Not Cause Weight Gain?

Back in 1996 Duke University came out with a new study that proclaimed "Sugar Does Not Cause Weight Gain". On the surface this seemed great, we are ok to eat sugar, its fat that's evil, not sugar after all. Well that isn't completely true; the study went on to site this further piece of data...

"Sugar has an undeserved bad reputation," Surwit said. "This may be due, in part, to the fact that sugar is often used in combination with other ingredients, such as fat, which are known to have adverse health effects. Average, healthy people trying to lose weight can include sugar and sugary foods in their diet as long as they reduce their total caloric intake."

I bolded it for you. For those of you that don't know weight loss is a simple equation, if you burn more calories then you put into your body you will lose weight. It really doesn't matter where the calories come from, this is 100% true. The issue is we consume so much sugar in a given day because it is hidden everywhere that it is causing us to easily take in more calories then we burn.
So what is Duke really saying here? Sugar isn't bad as long as you don't take in too much of it! Great same thing goes for other things... like arsenic and chlorine gas. That makes me feel better.

Ever heard of Jared, you know the subway diet guy, this is how he lost weight. Not because Subway is so great for you or healthy at all for that matter, but becasue he was able to limit his calories. Lets see you live on three 6 inch subs a day. I have been telling people for ever since then I was going to go on the big Mac diet. Yep, believe it or not you could eat 2 1/2 Big Macs a day and lose weight. This would be highly unhealthy, but you would lose wieght.

So to wrap this up sugar does not cause weight gain, massive amounts of sugar feed to you in everything you eat does. This happens becasue it is causing your calorie intake to skyrocket above what you can burn in a day.

Sugar, Sugar Everywhere!

Most people have no idea how much sugar is in most of the foods they eat. And even if you’re on top of that I highly doubt you realize how much sugar was in that beverage you just guzzled down. If it was a Starbucks anything you might as well quit now.

Even some things we believe to be good for us are loaded with sugar. How about that O.J. you had this morning? 2.6 grams of sugar per ounce! So your standard 10oz glass had 26 grams of sugar...and that was before 8am. How about that Sports drink you had, you know, the one all the athletes drink. Your average Gatorade has around 28 carbs per 20oz bottle, most of that is pure sugar.
